Jay Stansfield secures historic victory for Birmingham in tough match against Bristol Rovers

Leading the way in League One, Birmingham achieved a record-breaking 37th victory this season with a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers. Jay Stansfield's late penalty sealed the deal at the Memorial Stadium.

Stansfield made his mark with his 22nd goal of the season, converting a spot-kick past Jed Ward in the 85th minute after Taylor Moore's handball.

Keshi Anderson opened the scoring for Birmingham after three minutes, elegantly curling the ball into the net from 15 yards off Kieran Dowell's cross.

Although Rovers fought back with Gatlin O'Donkor's close-range header after 19 minutes, set up by Connor Taylor and Kofi Shaw, Birmingham was the dominant team throughout the match.

Rovers were fortunate not to concede more goals before the break, hitting the woodwork twice.

After hitting the crossbar with a header, O'Donkor almost scored, but his shot hit the post after deflecting Sotiriou's effort from Shaw's free-kick.

Despite Ward preventing Anderson from regaining the lead early in the second half, Stansfield's goal secured Birmingham's triumph. The team surpassed the achievements of the 1994-95 squad by recording their 37th win and extending their lead over Wrexham to 11 points.
