Dundee United secure win against 10-man Hearts with Sam Dalby's header

Sam Dalby scored with a header leading Dundee United to a 1-0 victory against Hearts at Tynecastle. United took advantage of Hearts forward James Wilson getting a red card in the first half, giving a boost to their chances of qualifying for Europe.

Hearts needed a win to secure a top-six position and get within two points of fifth-placed United in the William Hill Premiership. They started strong before the break.

However, Wilson's sending off in the 38th minute changed the course of the game, allowing United to take control in the second half.

Dalby's goal in the 67th minute extended Jim Goodwin's team's lead over Hearts to eight points, keeping them in the race for Europe alongside Hibernian and Aberdeen.

Hearts' manager Neil Critchley made four changes to the team compared to their previous match, while United had five alterations from their last game, with one being a late enforced change due to an injury.

Hearts had the first opportunity in the 16th minute, but United's goalkeeper Jack Walton made a crucial save to deny Elton Kabangu. Wilson missed a good chance in the first half, and Hearts were left with a challenge after Wilson's red card.

Despite being a player down, Hearts still pushed forward but United took the lead in the second half through Dalby's goal. Hearts kept pressing but now face a tough match against Motherwell as they aim to secure a spot in the top six and keep their European dreams alive.
