Jovan Malcolm nets two goals to lead Gateshead to victory over Forest Green

Jovan Malcolm scored twice in the first half, helping Gateshead secure a 3-2 victory against Forest Green in the National League play-off battle.

Malcolm found the net early and late in the first half, with Liam Humbles adding a third goal for the visitors.

Despite a late scare with an own-goal by George Shelvey in the 87th minute and Christian Doidge's stoppage-time goal, Gateshead managed to hang on and climb to fifth place.

The match kicked off with Malcolm's quick goal after just 41 seconds at The New Lawn Stadium, setting the tone for Gateshead's strong start.

Malcolm struck again close to half-time, capitalizing on an opportunity inside the box, and Humbles sealed the victory with a fantastic goal in the 62nd minute.

Forest Green were given a glimmer of hope late in the game when Regan Booty's long pass resulted in an own goal by Gateshead goalkeeper Shelvey. The home crowd rallied behind their team, but despite Doidge's late goal, Gateshead held firm, closing in just two spots behind Forest Green in the standings.
