Jamie Vardy reaches milestone with 200th goal for Leicester in last match for the club

Jamie Vardy ended his time at Leicester with a bang by scoring his 200th goal in his 500th and last match for the team in a 2-0 win against Ipswich, who were also relegated.

The 38-year-old striker, a former England player, had a memorable final game with the Foxes as he said goodbye to the club exactly 13 years after joining from Fleetwood for £1million.

Vardy leaves behind a remarkable legacy at Filbert Way, having played a key role in Leicester's miraculous escape from relegation in 2015, followed by winning the Premier League at 5,000-1 odds the next year and lifting the FA Cup in 2021.

He delighted the fans by scoring the opening goal in the 28th minute before being given a special send-off by his teammates when he was substituted with 10 minutes remaining, marking the end of his Leicester journey.

The Golden Boot winner of the 2019-2020 Premier League season had missed a couple of chances before finally finding the back of the net in the first half, scoring his ninth league goal in a season where his team has faced challenges in scoring.

Leicester secured the win with a goal from Kasey McAteer in the 69th minute, adding more cushion to their lead in a match between two teams heading to the second division next season.

Despite the disappointment of relegation, Leicester fans had a day of celebration for one of their all-time greats, and a recent improvement in form offers some optimism for the future.

Vardy led the team onto the field at the King Power Stadium for the final time, with fans waving flags bearing the message "Thank you Vards," and banners displayed in the stadium to honor his farewell, with the scoreboard reading "Goodbye GOAT."

The opposition, led by Kieran McKenna, initially aimed to disrupt the farewell proceedings, with early attempts at goal from Leif Davis creating some nervous moments for the home crowd.

Vardy had a close opportunity when he received a pinpoint pass from Jordan Ayew, but his shot did not trouble the opposition goalkeeper.

However, the milestone moment for Vardy arrived soon after, as he capitalized on a well-timed pass from James Justin to score his 200th goal for Leicester.

Although Ipswich tried to spoil the celebration, Leicester held onto their lead going into halftime, with Hutchinson missing a golden chance for the visitors.

The second half saw Ipswich pressing for an equalizer, with Foxes' goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk making crucial saves, while McAteer eventually doubled the lead with a goal in the 69th minute.

As Vardy was substituted in the final 10 minutes, his teammates formed a guard of honor as he bid farewell to the Leicester fans, closing a remarkable chapter in his career.
