Man City dominates Al Ain with Ilkay Gundogan scoring twice in Club World Cup match

Ilkay Gundogan netted two goals as Manchester City demolished Al Ain 6-0 to clinch their spot in the last 16 of the Club World Cup.

The Premier League team were clearly superior to their opponents from Abu Dhabi at Atlanta's magnificent Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It was evident that City would dominate the match as soon as Gundogan, who has been rumored to transfer to Galatasaray, scored the opening goal with a lob over the keeper after just eight minutes.

In his first start for City, teenager Claudio Echeverri scored the second goal from a free-kick, while Erling Haaland made it 3-0 with a penalty before halftime.

Gundogan completed a slick move with a goal in the 73rd minute before substitutes Oscar Bobb and Rayan Cherki sealed the victory late in the game, ensuring City and Juventus will advance from Group G.

The two teams will battle it out in Orlando on Thursday to determine the group winner, with the possibility of facing Real Madrid in the knockout stage.

In a match where City made 11 changes from their previous win against Wydad Casablanca, they swiftly took control, although it was unclear whether Gundogan's chip was intentional.

The German midfielder elegantly lifted the ball towards the back post, where Haaland was waiting to guide it into the net without any further touch needed.

Despite their dominance, City faced some nervy moments at the back, with Nassim Chadli breaking through on goal, only to be denied by Stefan Ortega.

There was a delay as Echeverri, in his debut start, received treatment after a collision.

However, the Argentinean's issue was not severe as he quickly recovered to score City's second goal after a foul on Matheus Nunes.

Haaland had a chance to score another goal after intercepting a pass but missed from a tight angle.

As the crowd generated excitement with Mexican waves, Josko Gvardiol hit the post with a header.

Haaland missed another opportunity before converting a penalty in stoppage time after City's claims were upheld following a VAR review.

Nunes came close to scoring with a volley, while Foden's low cross found Haaland, only for Eisa to make a double save.

Gundogan's brilliant finish over Eisa from a Silva pass secured the fourth goal for City.

In the final minutes of the game, Bobb and Cherki found the back of the net to extend City's lead.
