Morecambe rally with ten players to secure an impressive late draw for their first point of the season

Ten-player Morecambe staged an impressive turnaround to secure their first point of the season in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Colchester at the Mazuma Stadium.

The Shrimps, who witnessed their manager Derek Adams and defender Luke Hendrie being shown red cards in the first half, fought back from a 3-1 deficit with seven minutes remaining to claim a draw after Colchester squandered numerous opportunities to win the match.

Morecambe opened the scoring with their maiden league goal of the season in the 17th minute, as Ben Tollitt received the ball on the left side and placed a shot past Matt Macey from outside the penalty area.

The home team then suffered a setback when manager Adams was sent off following two quick yellow cards, and they were reduced to ten men just before halftime when right-back Hendrie received a second booking for a reckless challenge on Owura Edwards.

Colchester capitalized on the situation as Edwards converted a header from close range off a free-kick to level the score.

Danny Cowley's team took the lead early in the second half when Samson Tovide scored from a rebound after Stuart Moore made a fine save.

Morecambe responded with Tollitt's shot being well saved by Ben Goodliffe, but Colchester extended their lead in the 64th minute as Lyle Taylor found the net from a left-sided cross, beating Adam Lewis to the ball.

Harry Anderson missed a golden opportunity after Anthony Scully hit the crossbar, and Morecambe punished them for the mistake.

Callum Jones converted a penalty with seven minutes remaining after Kayden Harrack was brought down in the box by Alex Woodyard, and Marcus Dackers completed the comeback with a shot two minutes from time that deflected past the stranded Macey.
