Eberechi Eze shines in QPR comeback as Crystal Palace advance in Carabao Cup

Eberechi Eze found the back of the net and set up a goal in his return to Loftus Road with Crystal Palace as they defeated QPR 2-1 in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Eze, who made the switch to Palace from QPR for a reported £17 million in 2020, was given a shirt before the match as he proceeded to hurt his former club in an impressive individual performance in west London.

The attacking midfielder assisted Eddie Nketiah for his first goal for Palace before scoring a fortunate goal in the second half to cancel out Sam Field's equalizer.

QPR had a good spell of possession at the start against their Premier League opponents, but a mistake from Harrison Ashby nearly led to an early goal against them. Despite Ashby's initial skillful play, Palace capitalized on a turnover which resulted in Eze setting up Nketiah for the opening goal in the 16th minute.

Palace's solid defending paid off as they created an opportunity which gave them the lead. Eze quickly took a free-kick after winning the ball in a promising position, catching QPR off guard as Nketiah scored from a tight angle.

Nketiah was impressive for Palace with the freedom to move around on both sides, and he was involved in another chance that almost doubled the lead.

After the break, QPR reacted strongly and managed to equalize quickly. Despite an initial save by Dean Henderson, Palace failed to clear the ball after a corner, allowing Field to score from close range.

However, a brilliant individual run from Eze, who spent four years at QPR from 2016 to 2020, resulted in Palace regaining the lead.

Eze's run past his marker and deflected shot off Steve Cook found the back of the net, allowing Palace to secure the victory.

Despite late opportunities for QPR, they were unable to convert as Palace emerged victorious under Oliver Glasner's guidance.
