Late goal by James Husband secures debut win for Steve Bruce at Blackpool

James Husband scored a late decisive goal to secure Steve Bruce a win in his debut game as the manager of Blackpool, defeating Exeter 2-1 in League One.

CJ Hamilton found the back of the net first for the home team in the 20th minute, taking advantage of a messy situation in Exeter's defense following a throw-in.

With only two minutes left on the clock, Ed Francis skillfully curved a free-kick into the top corner from a difficult angle, seemingly salvaging a draw for the visiting team.

However, Captain Husband capitalized in added time to clinch Blackpool's first victory of the League One season, propelling them to 19th place in the standings.

In the early stages of the match, both teams were evenly matched, but shortly after Hamilton's goal, Dom Ballard was prevented from scoring by an impressive save from Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth.

Exeter started to create opportunities, and a clever play 10 minutes before halftime saw Kamari Doyle denied by Harry Tyrer. Just before the break, Jack Aitchison's diving header from Josh Magennis' cross narrowly missed the target.

Blackpool appeared more threatening, with Whitworth making crucial saves from Rob Apter and Ballard to keep Exeter in contention.

Scoring opportunities decreased in the second half, although Exeter came close through Ilmari Niskanen, who shot over the crossbar after Aitchison's attempt was blocked.

Tyrer made a remarkable save from Reece Cole's strike with seven minutes remaining, but Francis' impressive goal in the 88th minute seemed to salvage a draw for Exeter.

Then, following a dangerous ball into the box from Jordan Rhodes, Husband smashed in a dramatic winner up close.
