Club World Cup: Predictions for all four Tuesday games

Club World Cup: Predictions for all four Tuesday games

- Brazilian league leaders Flamengo take on Esperance de Tunis before meeting Group D favourites Chelsea on matchday two
- Borussia Dortmund are aiming to build on a strong finish to the Bundesliga campaign when they face Fluminense
- Group F underdogs Ulsan HD of South Korea and South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns meet in Orlando

There are four matches at the Club World Cup on Tuesday, starting with Flamengo's Group D fixture against Tunisian champions Esperance de Tunis.

Fluminense, beaten 4-0 by Manchester City in the 2023 CWC final, face in-form Borussia Dortmund in Group F while River Plate take on Urawa Red Diamonds and Ulsan Hyundai are up against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Flamengo vs Esperance de Tunis (Tuesday, 2am)

Tuesday's first game might not be top of the bill for many fans but it features two teams who have grown accustomed to winning.

Flamengo, one of Brazil's top sides, take on Tunisian champions Esperance de Tunis, who lost only one of their final 25 league games this season and also won the Tunisian Cup and Super Cup.

They found the step up in class beyond them in the CAF Champions League, reaching the quarter-finals but going out over two legs to South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

That level of form suggests Esperance may struggle against Flamengo, who should get three points on the board before they face Group D favourites Chelsea on matchday two.

Score prediction: Flamengo 3-0 Esperance de Tunis

Fluminense vs Borussia Dortmund (Tuesday, 5pm)

Borussia Dortmund won seven of their last eight Bundesliga matches to snatch the final Champions League spot and they should be confident going into their Group F opener against Fluminense.

The Brazilian side reached the 2023 Club World Cup final, where they were thrashed by Manchester City, but they have a modest record in Serie A this season.

Fluminense have scored only 15 goals in 11 games despite facing only one team in the top six and they could be kept quiet by Niko Kovac's impressive Dortmund side.

Score prediction: Fluminense 0-2 Borussia Dortmund

Marcelo Gallardo is back in charge at River Plate for the second time in his career.

River Plate vs Urawa Red Diamonds (Tuesday, 8pm)

Urawa Red Diamonds are seven points off the pace in the J-League title race this season and their poor away record suggests they may struggle at the Club World Cup.

The Reds have won just one of their 10 road fixtures in the league and they face a daunting Group E opener against Argentinian giants River Plate.

River conceded only 10 goals in 18 games in the first half of the league campaign and they should record a victory to nil.

Score prediction: River Plate 2-0 Urawa Red Diamonds

Ulsan HD vs Mamelodi Sundowns (Tuesday, 11pm)

South Korean champions Ulsan HD are short on confidence after a woeful AFC Champions League campaign in which they lost six of their seven games.

They failed to score in their first four defeats in that tournament and could suffer a narrow defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in Group F.

The Sundowns have won eight South African Premiership titles on the spin and they showcased their defensive strength in the CAF Champions League.

They lost to Egypt's Pyramids in the final but eliminated fellow CWC qualifiers Esperance de Tunis and Al Ahly in the previous two rounds, conceding only one goal in four matches.

Score prediction: Ulsan HD 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns
