Dagenham & Redbridge score seven goals against Gateshead to defeat them and halt their unbeaten streak

Gateshead's perfect start to the National League season was ended abruptly as they were heavily beaten 7-1 by Dagenham & Redbridge.

Dagenham dominated the game with goals from on-loan Luton midfielder Dion Pereira, Junior Morais, and Josh Rees, each scoring twice, while Josh Umerah also found the back of the net.

Gateshead's only response was an own goal from Paul Kalambayi before halftime, marking their first loss in eight league matches this season.

Pereira opened the scoring from Morais' assist, followed by Rees converting Tom Eastman's pass to double Dagenham's lead in the 16th minute.

Although Kalambayi's own goal brought Gateshead back into the game, Morais extended Dagenham's lead with a goal in the 64th minute, and then added another after Pereira scored from a penalty kick.

Umerah then scored Dagenham's sixth goal from a corner kick before Rees sealed the victory with his second goal deep into stoppage time.
