Blackpool's Sonny Carey nets two goals to halt Reading's undefeated streak

Sonny Carey netted two goals to help Blackpool put an end to Reading's 11-game unbeaten streak and hinder the Royals' push for a spot in the play-offs with a 3-0 win at Bloomfield Road.

Under the guidance of Steve Bruce, the team improved their chances of securing a top-six finish in Sky Bet League One by securing their third consecutive victory.

Reading's goalkeeper Joel Pereira made a crucial save to deny Sonny Carey early in the game, while Lewis Wing missed a chance for the Royals in the first half.

Shortly after the second half began, Pereira made another important save to keep out a shot from Carey.

Eventually, Carey, who has been in great form, opened the scoring in the 52nd minute by finishing a chance created by Ashley Fletcher.

Just two minutes later, the hosts extended their lead as Olly Casey found the back of the net after Niall Ennis set him up with a chest pass from Lee Evans' cross.

Blackpool's key striker Fletcher and Tom Bloxham had their attempts denied by Pereira.

However, in stoppage time, Pereira couldn't hold onto Sammy Silvera's cross, allowing Carey, the man of the match, to score his sixth goal in as many games.

Reading now fall out of the play-off positions, while Blackpool sit three points behind the play-off spots after this latest victory.
